Mary started practicing yoga as a child with her mother in the 1970's. She was also a competitive gymnast and dancer until she was 22 years of age. She dabbled in many sports as well as in formal education. She has a B. A. in Psychology and an M. S. in Biology. Always looking to learn something new, she has taken many courses and earned many certificates in fitness and wellness. Besides practicing yoga and pilates, Mary enjoys climbing, hiking, skiing and training in the Sierra.
Mary is certified by NASM as a Corrective Exercise Specialist.
The primary objective of Corrective Exercise is to optimize movement quality. It helps enhance performance, results, injury resistance, movement efficiency, and recovery. By using static, movement, and mobility assessments the practitioner will be able to determine which muscles are underactive and which are overactive. This information is then used to help the client learn how to inhibit(self massage)and lengthen (stretch) the overactive muscles and activate (isolated strengthening) and integrate (dynamic strengthening)the underactive muscles. Hence allowing for the client to enhance their quality of movement.
*Private sessions are available upon request-may be combined with medical soft tissue manipulation*
Mary is certified as a Professional Massage Therapist and Natural Health Counselor. She is also certified through the California Massage Therapy Council. She was trained in various styles of tissue manipulation and took most of her beginning training from Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, CA, where she also taught classes for many years. Mary has also pursued courses that focus on structural and postural work, as well as orthopedic issues. She has studied Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy with John F. Barnes and Lori Zeltwanger. Her sessions focus on structural work using myofascial release, trigger point release, and craniosacral work to release restrictions and holding patterns. Other muscle energy techniques such as MET, PNF, NKT, mobility testing, and facilitated fascial stretching are used in combination to help reduce restrictions and find overactive and underactive muscle and fascial patterns.

For decades Mary has been using strength training and conditioning to increase her power and endurance in different sports. From an early age Mary was a competitive gymnast, distance runner, cyclist, and cross country ski racer. Later in life she focused most of her time and energy in climbing and skiing. If you want to increase your overall strength, power, or endurance, you can set up a private session or sessions to help improve your overall fitness and work on your goals. Power lifting, TRX, resistance bands and springs, rings, pull up bar, hangboard, and climbing wall will all be available tools for use to help you improve your strength and conditioning.

Mary is certified by NASM as a Stretching and Flexibility Coach. With the help of static and mobility assessments, the practitioner will determine where the body appears to shift, bend, tilt, or rotate and which fascial nets are responsible. Functional movement patterns are then assessed and an individualized integrated stretch program is designed that may include self-myofascial techniques, specific corrective stretches, dynamic stretches for warm-ups, and recovery stretches for cool downs.
*Privates are available upon request -may be combined with medical soft tissue manipulation*
